This game is really fun, extremely addictive, and allows for you to come up with many different strategies.
It seems routing for the bard is always the strongest, you're almost forced to it. Trying to win with a low tier unit is a challenge. 99 is max damage for a unit :)
It's pretty fun to only get archers, that's a guaranteed loss however. Archers can be good early game but fall off hard, and also since their target is random they can mess up your plan completely.
Which units you get is a lottery. (It seems you're less likely to get those you're hellbent on getting.) What enemies you face are random. It's hard if you end up facing knights at turn 6.
Some of my history with this game:
Having finished the game the first time - I'll never play this again
Having finished the game not having lost any health - now I'll never play this again
successfully getting lvl 3 succubus for the first time - now I'll never play this again
successfully getting lvl 3 rocker - now I'll never play this again
successfully getting lvl 3 blacksmith - now I'll never play this again
Having finished the game in 7 turns - now I'll never play this again
I'm not surprised if this damn game will end up alongside drug addiction on a list of severe addictions.
This last part is not for those that prefer figuring out and tinkering on their own like I would. Lastly I thought I'd share a few combinations I've discovered. (I've probably forgotten many.) There is a lot of room for creativity in the game.
I always place archers and mages on the top row, in the event that there's a unit that spawn other units the units that don't have space to spawn will fall off.
A wizard with a lvl 3 milkman is pretty, let's say, extremely inefficient.
Succubus + lvl 3 milkman (I find a shield is better for her than ankh/blessing)
pigman / or + kobold + multiple lvl 2 rats
bowie + lvl 3 milkman - if not too far forward the archer fires both arrows before getting the shield (as long as no ranged unit from the king messes everything up)
rogue + annoying skull
bard + rogue + summoning book
